During the recent Swimsuit Spanking Special, we mentioned the old gag of a man giving a woman a good swat on her rear end using fly swatting as an excuse. Frank Beaven used a similar idea in a Humorama cartoon we'll see later in this series, and Bill Ward used it twice as we'll see now and in the next entry. It's similar to the Secretary Spanking routine in that the humor derives from the man seizing on a flimsy (or non-existent) excuse to bring his hand down smartly on the woman's fanny. We don't know exactly when this cartoon was first published, but it appears to be in Ward's early style, probably from 1956 - 1961. The spankee's proportions are not exactly realistic (especially that wasp-waist) but they're close and not completely distorted as they would become in Ward's later work. |

02/01/2013 Update: Our prediction was correct - this cartoon first appeared in the September 1956 issue of Jest. From the standpoint of humor, this was one of Ward's better efforts, and we'll mention again that we much prefer his work from this period. |
