![]() Art by Herc Ficklen. From the April 1957 issue of Breezy. Discovered and posted by the Web-Ed on 09/25/2020 (click to double-size). |
By 1957 the Humorama spanking cartoon was in its prime, and so was Herc Ficklen as far
as his spanking work goes: he published six of his nine known spanking cartoons that
year, having done his first in 1956. Indeed, his very similar
Cop Spank was published only a month earlier in March
1957. In that cartoon, the police officer elects to spank a pretty lawbreaker rather
than take away her driver's license, whereas here the sheriff spanks a scofflaw in the
old west when she can't pay her fine. Sound jurisprudence in both cases, it seems to us.
Herc's usual virtues are on display here: good OTK positioning, a full-figured spankee who doesn't object to being spanked, and an overall charm, a characteristic only possible in a more innocent (and better) time than today. |
